Before Savannah Guthrie found love with Michael Feldman, she was married to Mark Orchard for a brief period of time.
The twosome reportedly met sometime in 2005 while covering the Michael Jackson sexual abuse trial â Guthrie on assignment as a CourtTV correspondent and Orchard for the BBC.
Guthrie and Orchard tied the knot in December 2005, but ended up filing for divorce in 2009.
While she hasnât opened up about her marriage to Orchard throughout the years, Guthrie did make a short comment on the breakup in July 2025.
âI donât want to talk about getting divorced,â she said on an episode of Monica Lewinskyâs âReclaimingâ podcast. âIt was horrible and sad and it broke my heart. It took me years to recover. Iâm not blaming anyone but I donât really want to get into it.â
Following Guthrieâs 2009 divorce, she found love once again and married Feldman in 2014. The pair welcomed daughter Vale that same year and son Charley in 2016.

Over two decades since her divorce from Orchard, Guthrie published a series of personal essays called Mostly What God Does. The book included a disclaimer to readers to let them know that Guthrie wasnât going to touch on some personal matters because they were âtoo personal and too embarrassing.â
âIâm down here and my feet are burning on the pavement â I just donât want to tell you why the pavement was so hot or how many blisters I had on my feet,â the disclaimer read. âI donât want to give you the gory details. But I do want to share with you and I understand that you may have these questions and maybe this wonât be enough for you.â

In an interview with Us Weekly, Guthrie said she was 36 when she got divorced and âwasnât married long,â which was a âhuge disappointmentâ to her.
âI was pretty sure that I had lost my opportunity [to have kids] and more or less ruined my life,â she explained. âAll I ever really wanted was to fall in love, be a mom and have a family. I donât know if itâs acceptable to admit these days, but thatâs kind of how I was. I wanted to do something important and meaningful, but I really wanted a family.â

Guthrie detailed feeling like a âfailureâ after her divorce from Orchard during an appearance on the the âJoy Ridesâ podcast.
âProbably the most difficult time was when I was getting separated and divorced from my first husband,â she said. âI was in my 30s. I felt old, but I now see that I was pretty young, and I was sad about it.â
Guthrie continued, âAnd I was also starting a new job at a place called NBC and trying really hard to make my way and make my little dream come true while other dreams were falling apart. And it made me have to really dig deep, and I felt like a failure.â
