‘From fire and flags to a single spotlight’ — Kid Rock stuns with a reimagined take on “‘Til You Can’t” at Turning Point USA’s All-American Halftime Show, turning spectacle into statement

Kid Rock Performs New Version of “‘Til You Can’t” By Cody Johnson At Turning Point USA’s All-American Halftime Show

Turning Point USA’s All-American Halftime Show also featured performances from Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett.

Kid Rock added a verse to the chart-topping hit “‘Til You Can’t” by Cody Johnson during Turning Point USA‘s All-American Halftime Show, which aired concurrently with the Super Bowl LX Apple Music Halftime Show featuring Bad Bunny on Sunday (Feb. 8).

The controversial superstar launched his two-song set with the fan-favorite rock anthem, “Bawitdaba,” as the venue lit up and an American flag filled the backdrop. Kid Rock, wearing jean shorts, a white fur vest that he quickly shed over a black tank top, and a fedora, stormed the stage as flames erupted and red, white, and blue lights filled the unknown venue.

“Bawitdaba, da-bang, da-bang, diggy-diggy-diggy/ Said the boogie, said up jump the boogie/ Bawitdaba, da-bang, da-bang, diggy-diggy-diggy/ Said the boogie, said up drop the boogie,” Kid Rock sang on the track’s chorus.

He then briefly exited the stage as a violinist and cellist took center stage before Kid Rock returned, this time being introduced by his real name, Robert Ritchie.

This time, Ritchie appeared in an all-denim ensemble and a baby blue trucker hat honoring his hometown of Detroit as he stood under a lone spotlight at center stage and performed a reimagined version of “‘Til You Can’t,” originally recorded by Cody Johnson.

He performed Johnson’s original lyrics throughout the opening verses and choruses before adding his own verse near the end of the song. Joined by his full band, including a drummer whose drumhead featured The Preamble to the U.S. Constitution, Kid Rock showcased his country vocals with light instrumentation.

“If you got a chance, take it, take it while you got a chance/ If you got a dream, chase it, ’cause a dream won’t chase you back/ If you’re gonna love somebody/ Hold ’em as long and as strong and as close as you can/ ‘Til you can’t,” Kid Rock sang on the chorus before pausing to explain his new verse.

“You know I awoke one Sunday morning all alone with this song stuck in my head. And in that moment, something or someone spoke to me. They said there was still a verse that needed to be written for this song, and to get up and write it down,” Kid Rock said, explaining why he felt called to add a verse to Cody Johnson’s huge hit.

Kid Rock then went to sing the newly added verse. “There’s a book that is sitting in your house somewhere that could use some dusting off/ There’s a man that died for all our sins/ hanging from the cross/ You can give your life to Jesus/ and he’ll give you a second chance/ ’til you can’t, ’til you can’t,” he sang as the crowd erupted into thunderous cheers.

His performance concluded with a tribute to the late Charlie Kirk, who was tragically assassinated while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Photos of Kirk, his wife, Erica Kirk, and their children then filled the screens surrounding the stage, accompanied by the words, “In Remembrance of Charlie Kirk.”

Following Kid Rock’s performance on the show, he revealed that he will be releasing his version of the Cody Johnson hit on all streaming platforms on Monday, February 9. He also shared a heartfelt thank you to the songwriters who wrote “‘Til You Can’t,” including Cody Johnson, Ben Stennis, and Matt Rogers.

“If you enjoyed our version of “Til Ya Can’t” on The TPUSA All American Halftime, our studio recording of it will be available to purchase or stream at midnight tonight!” he wrote. “A big thank you to @CodyJohnson and the songwriters Ben Stennis and Matt Rogers for giving me their blessing to record and release it. It really is one of the best written songs I have heard in a long time, and NOTHING is more powerful than a great song in my book!”

Kid Rock first performed his version of Cody Johnson’s “‘Til You Can’t” during his headlining set at Hondo Rodeo Fest on November 8, 2025, in honor of the late Turning Point USA Founder and CEO, Charlie Kirk. At the time, he chose to cover a Johnson song as he stepped in for the Texas native, who was originally slated to headline but had to cancel due to a burst eardrum requiring surgery and recovery.

Ahead of his performance at the Turning Point USA concert event, Kid Rock opened up about recording the new version of the Johnson hit.

“So I’m going to flip a 180 and do what I think is one of the best-written songs in a long time,” Kid Rock told Fox News. “It’s a pretty current last few years country song. And it’s just one of the greatest written songs that I’ve heard in a long time. And I did it in a very unique way. It’s by a friend of mine who’s a very talented, famous artist, one of the best singers in country music. I don’t want to give it away. And I actually wrote something new for it that I thought they missed when they were writing this beautiful song.” He concluded, “And we recorded it a while back, and I said, ‘Man, if we’re going to play it, why don’t we put it out for people that night?’”
