Your skin is often the first place serious health problems quietly appear. A sudden dark spot that looks different from the rest of your skin can be more than just “ageing” or “sun damage”; in some cases, it may be an early sign of melanoma or a hormonal imbalance. Pay attention to new patches that are unusually dark, irregular in shape, or seem to spread quickly, especially if they don’t match your normal freckles or sunspots.

Non-healing sores are another red flag. A cut, blister, or scab that lingers for weeks, bleeds easily, or crusts over repeatedly can signal skin cancer, diabetes, or circulation issues. Rapidly changing moles demand urgent attention: look for asymmetry, jagged borders, multiple colours, growth, or itching and bleeding. These changes don’t always mean cancer—but they always mean you should act. Photograph suspicious areas, note dates, and see a dermatologist promptly. Early action can turn a terrifying possibility into a survivable story.
