Whoopi Goldberg congratulates View cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin on birth of baby boy: ‘Mom and baby are doing well’

The View just gained a brand new family member.

Whoopi Goldberg opened Wednesday’s episode by announcing that cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin had given birth to a baby boy.

The first thing we want to do is start by congratulating Alyssa and her husband Justin on the birth of their baby boy, Justin Patrick Griffin Jr.,” she said. “He weighed in at seven pounds and [is] 19 and a half inches.”

The baby’s height and weight took the audience and cohost Joy Behar by surprise. “Yeah,” Goldberg agreed. “Both mom and baby are doing well. I’m sure they’re tired, but they’re doing well.”

Behar, in response, asked why The View didn’t have any confetti on hand to celebrate the happy news. In response, Sara Haines quipped, “We didn’t push babies out, she did!”

“We were here for it, though,” Behar contended, to which Goldberg replied, “We’ll confetti her when she comes back. We’ll just throw it, because you know, once it goes it in your hair, it’s there for years.”

Goldberg announced during Tuesday’s episode that Griffin would not be joining her cohosts at the Hot Topics table because she had gone into labor.

“I don’t know if you saw the show yesterday, but it turned out Alyssa was right about Bad Bunny’s halftime show putting her into labor,” she teased at the time. “It put her into labor! She’s at the hospital right now! And we are wishing her the best as she waits for her baby boy to arrive.”

Behar also joked on the episode that Griffin and her husband, whom she married in 2021, should name their child “Bunny” in honor of the Grammy-winning Puerto Rican superstar.

Griffin revealed that she and her husband were expecting their first child together in October on The View. “I’m so overjoyed,” she said at the time. “I went through IVF. It was hard, it took us about a year, it took us five rounds, but he’s here. He’s coming!”

The panelist explained in a 2024 episode of the show’s companion podcast Behind the Table that it was important to her to speak out about her fertility journey.

“I wanted to share it for a couple of reasons,” she continued. “I had no idea at my age how hard this actually would be. I’m only 35 and, to me, I was like, I’ve got plenty of time, this won’t be that difficult. I’m healthy, I work out, I eat right. My body was just not cooperating.
