From girl next door to style superstar! As Jennifer Lopez’s 50th birthday approaches, we chart Jenny From The Block’s dramatic fashion evolution

It’s hard to believe that Jennifer Lopez will turn 50 years old on July 24.

At the age of 22, the world-renowned triple threat danced her way onto the scene starring on the ’90s hit show ‘In Living Color’.

Since then, she’s sold 80 million records worldwide, starred in countless blockbuster movies, launched a successful lifestyle brand and held a Las Vegas residency.

To celebrate the Bronx native’s milestone birthday, FEMAIL takes a look back at her dramatic ‘Jenny from the Block’ to fashion ICON style evolution. Are you ready? Let’s get loud!

She’s a known fashion chameleon who always keeps us guessing, so it’s near impossible to put Jennifer Lopez in a style category.

But over the years, her look has evolved dramatically.

Before becoming a world renowned superstar, Jennifer was just a number in 1990 vying for a spot on the hit show ‘In Living Color’ with short brown hair and dark lipstick.

The dancer was also an actress and had a few small roles in movies ‘My Little Girl’, ‘Money Train’, ‘Jack’ and ‘Blood and Wine.’

In 1997 she received her first leading role in the American biographical musical drama film Selena.

Two years later she showed the another one of her many talents releasing her debut album On the 6.

On February 23, 2000, she set pulses racing on the red carpet at the 42 Grammy Awards with then boyfriend hip-hop mogul, Sean Combs.

She wore a sultry silk chiffon Versace number that will go down in history as one of the most high-profile dresses of all time.  A star was born!

The infamous green gown featured a tropical print, a neckline that plunged below her navel and a sheer skirt.

It was a turning point in Jen’s career, as well as designer Donatella Versace’s, who took the reins at the Italian fashion house following the death of her brother Gianni.

The ‘Selena’ actress has been quoted saying that the life-altering gown lives in her house on a dress form.

What could possibly follow the green Versace?

At the MTV Video Music Awards in September of 2000, she accepted the Best Dance Video award for her hit ‘Waiting For Tonight’ in a white crop top and low-rise bottoms, accessorized with a rhinestone belt and matching bandana.

Though her relationship with the bad boy rapper didn’t last, the outfits she wore while dating him will live in our hearts forever.

After her split from Puff (Jen’s nickname for him), the ‘World of Dance’ judge met backup dancer Cris Judd on the set of her ‘Love Don’t Cost a Thing’ music video and married him in September 2001.

In the 10 months of marriage, her style became more bohemian. Think: wide brimmed floppy hats, peasant dress silhouettes and soft shimmery makeup.

The marriage was over by June 2002, and so was her hippie look.

If you were a teen in the late ’90s and early 2000s, you rushed home right after school to watch MTV’s TRL (Total Request Live).

For one of her 18 appearances on the show, the ‘If You Had My Love’ singer wore a pink velour drawstring jumpsuit with side stripes.

Fearlessly fashionable, she scrunched one leg up, and accessorized with a matching pink pageboy cap, large hoop earrings and nude heels.

Her love may not cost a thing, but good hair and fancy dresses certainly do.

By the end of 2002, Jennifer traded in her bohemian attire for evening gowns and diamonds.

On the set of ‘Gigli’ she met actor Ben Affleck. The two started dating and were quickly nicknamed ‘Bennifer’ by the press.

In a figure-hugging brown Gucci dress, sparkly earrings and Ben by her side, the duo looked like Hollywood’s royalty at the movie’s premiere.

At the peak of their relationship she donned a gorgeous mint green Valentino gown to the 2003 Academy Awards; perhaps one of her most elegant looks to date.

During her marriage to singer Marc Anthony (2004 – 2011) the Monster-in-Law actress welcomed twins Max and Emme.

While many woman don’t feel like getting dolled up during their first trimester, two babies on the way didn’t stop the lioness from looking her best at the 2007 Academy Awards.

Before taking the stage to introduce a medley of songs from ‘Dream Girls’, she owned the red carpet looking like a goddess in an empire style Marchesa gown.

Talk about a pregnancy glow!

Later that year Jen looked like an Old Hollywood starlet in a silver beaded Versace gown and matching hair accessory at the MET Gala.

In 2011, she stole the show at the annual fundraiser that paid tribute to the late Alexander McQueen, wearing a red Gucci dress featuring flower embellishment .

Just four months after splitting from Marc Anthony, the mom of two started dating backup dancer Casper Smart.

During their on-again, off-again relationship that lasted several years, she adopted a modest, ladylike look, complete with a sleek bun.

She attended the UN Foundation Gender Equality Dinner at The Four Seasons Restaurant in New York City in a head-to-toe peach ensemble, complete with a full tea-length skirt.

At the AOL Build Speaker Series she wore a green jacquard skirt and navy top.

But Jennifer is a true style chameleon that uses fashion as a form of self expression and can switch it up whenever she wants.

If you weren’t an American Idol fan, you were once the pop star joined the judging panel in 2011.

She upped the glam factor on the Fox hit show, with one of her best looks being a silk tulle embellished jumpsuit with all-over sequin by one of her preferred designers, Zuhair Murad.

Jennifer and Alex Rodriguez (6 years her junior) officially became an item in February 2017 when the singer was 47.

It’s safe to say, she has never looked better.

The old adage ‘age is just a number’ certainly rings true for this powerhouse.  She’s got an unapologetic approach to dressing and wears whatever she wants.

Walking arm in arm with the former pro baseball player at the 2018 TIME 100 Gala, Jennifer donned a Zuhair Murad Couture gown featuring a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit (a look she has become known for).

She completed the breathtaking ensemble with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a Jimmy Choo box clutch.

The ‘Dinero’ singer looks like a million bucks even when she’s not donning a haute couture gown.

After performing a medley of her top hits at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, including ‘Waiting For Tonight’, ‘Get On The Floor’ and ‘Love Don’t Cost A Thing’, and receiving the Video Vanguard Award, Jen celebrated in a printed Versace catsuit.

At the 2019 Academy Awards the Latina actress shined bright in a mirror mosaic gown by Tom Ford.

She added additional sparkle via jewels by Niwaka, before changing into a Zuhair Murad Couture dress for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, and restyling her hair. Queen!

But Jennifer Lopez doesn’t need to be walking a red carpet to look unreal.

For a date night with her soon-to-be fourth husband, Alex, she was spotted in a body hugging red mini dress with her perfect pins on display.

The Bronx-born beauty has had a lot of major fashion moments over the years.

What will she wear to her 50th birthday bash? Impossible to guess! But one thing is certain, it will be unforgettable!
